THE WRIGHT INSTITUTE
The Wright Institute, a Post-Graduate School of Psychotherapy that maintains a small clinical practice, is adjacent to UC Berkeley. Built in 1929 as a Sorority House, the three-story building's systems, structure, and layout no longer served the institute's needs. Proximity to the Hayward Fault also posed serious seismic risks that needed to be addressed through structural updates.
After working closely with the school to identify its needs, we developed a renovation that seismically upgraded the existing facility, made the Institute accessible, and provided new spaces to accommodate the educational program. Added spaces included new flexible conference and meeting rooms, staff offices and new indoor and outdoor student gathering spaces. The new design has strengthened the Institute's academic, professional, and creative identity by integrating the school's community and administrative functions.
